Community Garden
The State Street Community Garden was developed in Spring 2012 to serve the families of National 9 Apartments and the surrounding neighborhood. This garden has the most plots of any community garden with 53! This land is owned by the owners of the National 9 Apartments, which is leased for free by the Gardens Project. Community gardeners here grow abundant chiles, tomatoes, corn, strawberries and more. Those gardening here are a diverse community where the primary language spoken is the one of sharing fresh vegetables and fruits.
In addition to the numerous businesses and volunteers that helped develop this garden, special thanks go to the S.H. Cowell Foundation for their generous grant that funded the garden.
This garden is open to anyone living in Ukiah, with priority given to those living at National 9 or the surrounding neighborhood. The State Street Garden is located just east of State Street, behind Social Services and Ukiah Natural Foods in Ukiah (between Gobbi Street and Cherry Street). Drive by and take a look anytime, but if you’d like to get a tour inside, please contact the Gardens Project to schedule a time to come visit.
