Lake County is a rural mountainous community in Northern California with Clear Lake, California’s largest and oldest lake entirely within state-bounds at its center. It is bordered to the south by Napa County, to the west by Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and to the east by Glenn, Colusa, and Yolo counties and is a two hour drive from the Bay Area and Sacramento. Boasting the cleanest air in the country, a year-round growing season, plenty of rain and abundant sunshine, Lake County is a great place to garden!
In the fall of 2015, The Gardens Project received a three-year USDA Community Food Project grant to replicate our successful community garden model developed in Mendocino County in Lake County. The objectives for this three year project are 1) develop a thriving network of community and school gardens; 2) establish 6 new gardens in low-income neighborhoods; 3) build leadership, advocacy, and organizational skills among Garden Leaders by providing intensive leadership training; and 4) strengthen production capacity through a series of food production workshops. Check out our new gardens!
